Protein: An In-Depth Look at Intake, Synthesis, and How Much You Really Need

Protein might be the single most talked-about nutrient in fitness right now, and for good reason. It's the raw material your body uses to build and repair muscle, support your immune system, and keep you strong and mobile as you age. But between conflicting headlines, an explosion of new supplement products, and decades-old guidelines that may no longer reflect the science, it's easy to feel unsure about how much you actually need. Let's break it down.
Why Protein Matters So Much
Every cell in your body relies on protein. It's broken down into amino acids that your body uses to repair muscle tissue damaged during exercise, produce enzymes and hormones, support immune function, and maintain the structural integrity of your skin, bones, and connective tissue.
